About Me

DIANE RUBRIGHT, PSY.D., L.P.
she/her/hers

I am a licensed psychologist and educator. I bring a warm and collaborative approach to therapy stemming from my belief in the dignity and uniqueness of each client’s therapeutic journey. As a therapist, it is an honor and privilege to bring support and expertise to a tailored therapeutic journey. Author and therapist, Irvin Yalom, captures it best for me when he describes the respect and collaboration aspects of the client-therapist relationship as one of fellow travelers.

A bit more about me… I came to the Twin Cities to attend Macalester College and graduated with a degree in international studies and linguistics and I never left! After completing a clinical, Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Minnesota in eating disorders and weight cycling, I have continued to work with adolescents and adults for the good part of two decades. My counseling and clinical background allow me to bring multiple treatment approaches in my current therapy work with those struggling with some of the following issues: interpersonal relationships; career impasses; physical, emotional, and sexual trauma; eating disorders/disordered eating; social anxiety; depression; anxiety, including phobias; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and BFRBs (hair pulling and skin picking); Attention Deficit; and, grief, loss, and transition.

In addition to a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Saint Thomas, I also utilize my graduate degree in Second Languages and Cultures from the University of Minnesota. Speaking several other languages myself, I enjoy working very much with clients whose backgrounds include multiple cultures and languages, who may be in cross-cultural relationships or with clients who may be exploring new identities. I care very much that the many ways that we may identify ourselves–our authentic selves–may be embraced and honored in society and with me as fellow travelers in the therapeutic journey.

I am a certified Mindfulness Meditation through the MMTCP program and draw on my experience with T’ai Chi and Qi Gong. I bring these mindfulness-based approaches, and draw on my experience in T’ai Chi and Qi Gong, to those clients who are interested in growing practices and tools for greater relaxation and anxiety reduction. I also bring these tools and approaches to clients in a group format. I am also a certified Befriending Your Body Teacher (see group section).

I exercise my love of teaching part-time through work with graduate students entering the field of counseling psychology and therapy. I can be found outside of my professional commitments and passions watching and discussing movies, hiking or snowshoeing, gardening, appreciating and creating art, cooking with family, and playing with my dogs.I am also a certified Befriending Your Body Teacher (See group section) https://www.befriendingyourbodyprogram.com/
